Central Berlin has many boat piers, and several companies often share one stretch of quay. The usual mistakes are queueing for the wrong company's boat and turning up at a well-known pier that your cruise does not use.

None of the three cruises we compare boards at Friedrichstraße, the Nikolaiviertel or the main station. The sightseeing boats sail past all three, but you get on by Museum Island.

1Alte Börse pier: the BWSG sightseeing boat

The address is Burgstraße 27, 10178 Berlin. The pier sits on the east bank of the Spree, facing Museum Island. The operator describes it as near the S-Bahn and tram stop Hackescher Markt.

Your voucher has to be exchanged for boat tickets here before you board, and the listing asks you to do that at least 15 minutes ahead. If you arrive later, the supplier reserves the right to reassign your seats. Both the one-hour and the 2.5-hour tours start and finish at this pier.

2Reederei Hadynski pier: Carola and Franziska

This pier is a little further along the same bank, diagonally across from Berlin Cathedral and next to the restaurant Alois Moser Alpenküche. The listing gives Anna-Louisa-Karsch-Straße 2 as the address and links a map pin on the voucher.

The operator lists S-Bahn lines 5, 7, 9 and 75 to Hackescher Markt, and buses 100, 157, 200 and 348 to Spandauer Straße. Board only a boat named Carola or Franziska. The listing warns that boats from other companies may be moored at the same place before yours leaves.

One photo in the listing has a caption about boarding at the Friedrichstraße pier. The voucher instructions say the pier by the cathedral. Follow the voucher.

3Caprivi Bridge: the dinner cruise

The dinner cruise meets at the Caprivi Bridge, Wintersteinstraße 24, 10587 Berlin, beside a Reederei Becker sign. From there the group walks to the dock. The listing does not name a station, so plan the route in a map app before you leave.

This is in Charlottenburg, not in the centre. Going by the coordinates in the listing, it is more than 6 km from the Burgstraße piers. People who assume every Spree cruise leaves from Museum Island will not make it across town in time.

4How early to arrive

Alte Börse: 15 minutes, to exchange the voucher. Reederei Hadynski: 25 minutes, and check-in closes strictly 5 minutes before departure. The listing adds that a seat is guaranteed but that late arrivals in a larger group may not sit together. Dinner cruise: the meeting time is 6:30 pm and the listing recommends being there 15 minutes before.

On hot days Hadynski suggests the same 25 minutes for another reason: the shaded seats at the back of the boat go first.

5What goes wrong

Wrong boat is the main one. The two Burgstraße piers are little more than 100 metres apart and both sell a one-hour city tour. Look for BWSG and the name Alte Börse on one, and Reederei Hadynski with Carola or Franziska on the other.

Late arrival costs more on some tickets than others. Hadynski's boat does not wait and the ticket is non-refundable, as is the dinner cruise. Only the Alte Börse booking can be cancelled, and only up to 24 hours before.

Season is the last trap. The Alte Börse boats sail from 28 March to 1 November in 2026. Outside those dates, the Hadynski timetable runs to 31 December with earlier last departures.

Quick questions

Where do Spree river cruises leave from in Berlin?

The two one-hour cruises we compare leave from Burgstraße in Mitte, opposite Berlin Cathedral and Museum Island. The dinner cruise leaves from the Caprivi Bridge in Charlottenburg.

Which station is closest to the sightseeing boat piers?

Hackescher Markt. Both operators name it, and Reederei Hadynski lists S-Bahn lines 5, 7, 9 and 75.

Do these cruises board at Friedrichstraße or the main station?

No. The boats pass both, but boarding for the cruises on this page is at Burgstraße or, for dinner, at the Caprivi Bridge.

Do I need to print my voucher?

The listings do not say that printing is required. At Alte Börse the voucher must be swapped for boat tickets at the pier before boarding.
