Cruises in Barcelona side by side

For most visitors the answer is the one-hour solar catamaran from Moll de les Drassanes, at the foot of the Columbus Monument: from €14, refundable up to 24 hours ahead, with more than 800 reviews. It leaves the old port, follows the coast to the Olympic Port and turns out to sea for the skyline. Las Golondrinas sells a similar hour from €9, without the refund.

The dearer trips are different products, not better versions of the same one. A sailing catamaran goes out for 90 minutes at sunset with a live jazz band. A wooden sailing boat does 90 minutes with an open bar. A 12-person yacht leaves from the Olympic Port for two hours with a swim stop. Each gets the same sheet below.

Solar-powered catamaran trip

A 60-minute loop from the old port along the coast to the Olympic Port on a large catamaran driven by solar panels.

from €14

8.3/10 from 828 reviews on Civitatis

  • 1 h
  • Not stated
  • No food
  • Naval Tours, Moll de les Drassanes
  • Free cancellation up to 24 h before
  • Wheelchair accessible

Who it suitsFirst-time visitors who want Port Vell, Barceloneta and the skyline from the sea in one hour without committing the money for good. It is also the listing that states most clearly that it is wheelchair accessible with accessible toilets, and it accepts pets.

Pick something else ifSkip it if you want to be told what you are seeing: Las Golondrinas sells an audio guide in nine languages on a near-identical route. Skip it too if you were hoping for sails and quiet, because 150 seats is a big boat. The small sailing trip from the Olympic Port is the opposite experience.

Boarding, commentary, what is included
Boarding point
Naval Tours, Moll de les Drassanes. Meet at the Naval Tours stand on Moll de les Drassanes, the quay in front of the Columbus Monument at the bottom of La Rambla. The voucher asks you to arrive 15 minutes before departure. Barcelona's tourist board describes the same boat as boarding from the City Sailing ticket office opposite the monument and gives metro L3, Drassanes, as the nearest stop, so look for both names. Open pier on the map
Open or covered
The boat is the Eco Slim. Its builder describes a 24-metre catamaran seating 150 passengers on a single deck, with a bar, and the tourist board mentions nets at the bow and removable tables. The listing itself says only that it is comfortable and light. Nobody we checked states how much of the deck is shaded, so bring a hat in summer.
Commentary
No commentary or audio guide is listed. The tourist board says the crew speak Spanish and English, which is not the same as a guided tour. Read up on the skyline beforehand if you want to know what you are looking at.
Included
  • 60-minute ride on a solar-powered catamaran
Not included
  • Drinks and food (none listed)
  • Audio guide or live commentary (none listed)
Cancellation
Free cancellation up to 24 hours before the trip. After that, or if you do not show up, there is no refund.

Sightseeing · Day

Las Golondrinas harbour and coast boat

Barcelona's oldest harbour boats, with a 40-minute tour inside the port or a 60-minute tour that continues along the coast.

from €9

8.7/10 from 48 reviews on Civitatis

  • 1 h
  • Not stated
  • No food
  • Las Golondrinas, Moll de les Drassanes
  • Non-refundable
  • Wheelchair accessible

Who it suitsTravellers on a tight budget, families counting every ticket, and anyone who would like an audio guide in their own language. The 40-minute option suits people who want the working port and Montjuïc without going out to sea.

Pick something else ifSkip it if your plans or the weather might change, because the solar catamaran costs a few euros more and can be cancelled a day ahead. If you use a wheelchair, book the 60-minute option only: the tourist board says the historic boats are not adapted.

Boarding, commentary, what is included
Boarding point
Las Golondrinas, Moll de les Drassanes. Las Golondrinas has its own dock on Moll de les Drassanes, s/n, in front of the Columbus Monument, and the voucher carries a map link to the exact spot. Arrive at least 15 minutes early. The tourist board lists metro L3, Drassanes, and buses V13, 59 and 120. Several boat companies sell from the same quay, so check the name on the kiosk. Open pier on the map
Open or covered
You choose the tour, not the boat. The operator's fleet page lists two traditional boats from 1953, a catamaran and two monohulls, each carrying 146 to 196 passengers, and says the 60-minute tour runs on a catamaran. It does not describe the decks, so we cannot tell you how much is covered.
Commentary
The ride has no live guide. An audio guide is a paid extra: the listing quotes it in English at €2 per person, and the operator's site says it exists in nine languages and that headphones are not provided. Bring your own.
Included
  • Boat trip of 40 or 60 minutes, depending on the option booked
Not included
  • Audio guide in English (extra charge per person)
  • Drinks and food (none listed)
Cancellation
Non-refundable. Once booked, the listing gives no money back for cancellations or changes of plan.

Evening cruise · Sunset

Sunset catamaran cruise with live jazz

A 90-minute evening sail on a large sailing catamaran with a live jazz band and a pay bar.

from €28

9.1/10 from 228 reviews on Civitatis

  • 1 h 30 min
  • Open boat
  • No food
  • Catamaran Orsom, Moll de Drassanes, Portal de la Pau
  • Non-refundable

Who it suitsCouples and friends who want an evening on deck with music and are happy to buy their own drinks. It scores 9.1 from 228 reviews, the best-supported rating of the evening options.

Pick something else ifSkip it if you use a wheelchair, since the listing says it is not accessible, or if the non-refundable ticket worries you. For the skyline alone, the solar catamaran covers similar water in daylight for half the price.

Boarding, commentary, what is included
Boarding point
Catamaran Orsom, Moll de Drassanes, Portal de la Pau. The Catamaran Orsom departure point is on Moll de Drassanes at Portal de la Pau, the square around the Columbus Monument. The voucher recommends arriving at least 15 minutes early. Orsom's own booking page warns that when one sunset sailing is full it may offer another one from a different location, so check the address on whatever you end up holding. Open pier on the map
Open or covered
Orsom describes its boats as Barcelona's largest sailing catamarans, with open deck space, cushioned seating, sunbathing areas, a full bar and toilets. The operator gives no passenger number on the pages we read. This is an outdoor trip, so take a layer for the way back.
Commentary
There is no sightseeing commentary. The soundtrack is a live jazz and chill-out set, and Civitatis lists the activity as English only.
Included
  • 90-minute catamaran cruise
  • Live jazz music
Not included
  • Drinks from the bar
Cancellation
Non-refundable. A booking cannot be cancelled for money back, which matters for a trip sold on a sunset.

Wooden sailing boat with music and open bar

A 90-minute sail from the old port on a wooden sailing boat with chill-out music and drinks included.

  • No food
  • City Sailing Barcelona, Moll de les Drassanes
  • Free cancellation up to 24 h before

Who it suitsGroups of friends who mainly want a drink on the water at a low price. From €17 with the bar included, it undercuts the jazz catamaran once you add two drinks there.

Pick something else ifSkip it if reviews guide your choices: 7.7 from 59 reviews is the lowest score on this page. The jazz catamaran is the safer evening booking, and the solar catamaran is the better pick if you do not drink.

Boarding, commentary, what is included
Boarding point
City Sailing Barcelona, Moll de les Drassanes. Check in at the City Sailing Barcelona kiosk on Moll de les Drassanes, in front of the Columbus Monument. The voucher asks for about 15 minutes' margin because you must register at the counter before the boat leaves. The listing sets a minimum of 10 passengers for a sailing to run. Open pier on the map
Open or covered
The listing is muddled about the vessel. The title and description say wooden sailboat, the photo captions call it a schooner, and the ticket type is still labelled catamaran ride. We found no operator page to settle it or to describe the deck, so treat the boat as unconfirmed.
Commentary
No guide and no commentary. The music is described as chill-out tunes, and wifi on board is listed as included.
Included
  • 90-minute sailboat trip
  • Music
  • Open bar: water, soft drinks, beer, sangria, wine and cava
  • Wifi on board
Not included
  • Food (none listed)
Cancellation
Free cancellation up to 24 hours before the sailing. Later cancellations and no-shows are not refunded.

Small-group sailing trip with swim and aperitif

  • Open boat
  • Drinks or snacks
  • Moll de Mestral, Port Olímpic
  • Free cancellation up to 24 h before
  • Wheelchair accessible

Who it suitsPeople who want to sail, swim and have room on deck, and who would trade the port sights for two calm hours at sea. The listing marks it as wheelchair accessible with a companion, which must be stated when booking.

Pick something else ifSkip it if you are travelling with a child under four, the minimum age on the listing, or if you need commentary in English. At from €55 it costs about four times the solar catamaran, and 33 reviews is a thin record.

Boarding, commentary, what is included
Boarding point
Moll de Mestral, Port Olímpic. This one does not leave from the old port. Meet at Moll de Mestral in the Olympic Port and check in at the Boat Trip Barcelona tent. The voucher says the boats lie at berths 1536, 1537 and 1538, about 100 metres past the access barrier to the pier. Arrive at least 15 minutes early and keep the operator's phone number to hand. Open pier on the map
Open or covered
A sailing yacht with an open deck, where the listing says you sit for the trip. The group is capped at 12. The crew drop the sails and anchor for a swim, and the listing says you can try the helm. We found no operator page that names the boat.
Commentary
Civitatis lists the guide language as Spanish only. On a boat this size that means the skipper's explanations, including the short sailing lesson, come in Spanish.
Included
  • 2-hour sailboat ride along the coast
  • Snack: crisps, olives, fuet, cheese and bread
  • Glass of sparkling wine
Not included
  • Further drinks (none listed)
Cancellation
Free cancellation up to 24 hours before the trip. After that, or for a no-show, there is no refund.
